happy friday! it’s fall, like real fall here in minnesota, and i’m here. for. it. nothing makes me happier than waking up before the world, slightly chilled because we slept with the windows open, and getting to be able to choose to put on layers for the day. for real, it’s the little things in life, like not sweating to death walking in to my building.
i figured today i’d share a look that maria and i shot a little while ago that is a perfect transitional look. there are a couple of things that make this dress work from summer to fall:
- the colors. it’s white and black, and the color combo is classic. plus, the whole ‘no white after labor day’ thing is so antiquated … if you read the trend reports, white on white is IN for fall/winter 2018. that being said, it’s an 11/10 chance i spill on myself if i wear all white, so a pattern is a better bet. speaking of …
- the pattern. polka dots translate well from season to season. whereas floral is pretty spring/summer-y [“florals? for spring? groundbreaking.”] the abstract polka dots can take you through to fall.
- the length is perfect. it’s not a true maxi dress, that looks like it should only be worn on a tropical vacation, but it shows enough ankle that you can see your shoe and it’s long enough to give visual weight that fall clothes need. i have it paired with wedges here, but pairing with a good mule would be the perfect transition shoe.
- it’s layer-able. i’d throw a leather jacket over this, pair with a pair of mules, and voila! you have a transitional fall outfit.
