thanksgiving outfit options

i am not sure about you, but i live my life in outfits. yes, in the literal sense, i wear clothes everyday. but i’m one of those people that remembers life by the outfits i was wearing. clothing is nostalgia to me. i remember my first pair of flared denim (with flowers embroidered around the bottom — thank you, Gap!). i remember that i wore bright blue steve madden platform lace up wedges to my college graduation (because we were only allowed to wear black shoes with our gowns #rebel). and i can tell you the exact pair of onzie leggings and target sweater-coat i was wearing when i went to the hospital to deliver both babies. i live my life in outfits.

it makes total sense, then, that i’m already planning my outfit options for next thursday. i’m that kind of person. and because i also know myself, and might not be feeling that one exact outfit i picked out on the morning when i get up, i know that i need to have a few options for myself. here’s what’s in my turkey day outfit lineup:

for the turkey trot

full disclosure: i don’t run. anywhere. but i’m a really fast walker, and 5k’s are my jam. unless it is crazy cold, joey and i will be bundling the kids up to walk the turkey trot in town. here’s us last year:

i know logan, i hate running too. tbt to baby cole’s first thanksgiving.
don’t worry, future fam members. we walk our 5k’s!

anyways, it’s minnesota, so it’s going to be cold. i’ll be wearing leggings and a LOT of layers with my favorite running walking shoes.

we are super lucky that our family lives close by (both sides), so we are go-go-go all day on the holidays. my view on thanksgiving-wear is that i basically need comfortable fat pants or a dress — something that allows me to eat what i want without restriction and get down on the floor and play with the tiny humans. here’s what i’m thinking:

dress + leggings/tights/bike shorts

what you wear under your dress is as important is as the actual dress itself. bike shorts have been my saving grace the last few years with dresses, all year round, but leggings or tights work great, too.

leggings + sweater

it’s basic, and basic for a reason. leggings and a sweater is an easy combination that makes for a comfortable outfit all afternoon long. my rule of thumb is to wear a sweater that 1. you won’t get too hot in and 2. covers your backside, because you never know which relative will throw shade that ‘leggings aren’t pants.’

sweaters

leggings

matching sets

it’s so easy, and it’s basically like wearing sweatpants. any OC fans out there?! it’s the new julie cooper track suit 😀
