note: the #tarzhaythursday feature will be back next week. I wanted to finish out this week strong with a look towards january and 2020.
happy 2020! thanks for the kind words on the blog iteration .. i’ve been super excited to share it with the world, but I kept being held back by the fact that it wasn’t yet “perfect.” you see, i’d been working on this for the better part of 3+ months. and while I had most of the concept flushed out, I always felt like there were loose ends. as I was sitting there, thinking about what it would take to finally push everything live, and it hit me: done is better than perfect. and as hard is that is for me, it’s going to be my 2020 phrase. along with that, i’m going to focus on the word “do” for 2020.
for years, the paralyzing fear that my work is not good enough has done just that – paralyzed me. I have all kinds of ideas I think are great, but I don’t act on them or will start and not follow through because I don’t think that it’s ever good enough to share. this year, i’m putting a stop to that. i’m going to focus on moving the ball forward in a couple of different ways, always thinking back to “done is better than perfect” in all areas of my life (family, career, blog, friendships, hobbies, etc.).
blog
I have so many ideas and things I want to try, but sometimes it’s exhausting to try to produce things up to the level I feel like they should be. you’ll see me trying new strategies, creative approaches, and ways to look at topics on here, so thanks for following along as I explore in 2020! done is better than perfect, so the blog is going to be getting a little fresher.
beauty + family
I have a kid with chronic, painful eczema and a lot (LOT) of food allergies. i’m also a self-proclaimed armchair expert, and truly believe that there are so many areas of our lives that need to be cleaned up as we could be being exposed to chemicals that aren’t good for us. you know what? the thought of tackling that is absolutely DAUNTING. like, SO intimidating, but i’m going to start this year, and just start by doing. I can start tackling smaller areas of our lives, which i hope will lead to more impactful results. i’ve already seen a difference in my skin since using beautycounter, and the peace of mind I get from knowing that it’s safer for me gives me peace. I want to translate that mindset into what I feed my family, how I clean the home we live in, and the products they use. done is better than perfect when it comes to creating more product safety our entire lives, so i just need to start and do.
home + style
I’m legitimately at the point where I feel suffocated by all the things we have, so I really need to start editing. while i’m no minimalist, I think I need to take a page out of maria kondo’s book and figure out how to keep only things that spark joy. paisley + sparrow is doing a 6 week decluttering challenge and emily ley is running her annual simplified challenge. i’m not committing to doing either perfectly, but it’s a place to start! I walked my house with a garbage bag yesterday per the emily ley program and just got rid of crap. it felt good.
mental + physical health
I think i’ve done a pretty good job of setting up routines for my own health, but i’ve let the mental health thing fall by the wayside. I have said over and over and over again I want to start meditating, but haven’t because I never felt like I could do it consistently. so what? some is better than none, so I am going to just do it when I can instead of writing it off completely if I can’t be perfect at it. when it comes to physical health, I want to get stronger, and that means adding in more weights when I can. again, some is better than none.
this isn’t the exhaustive list, but you guys know I do monthly intentions, so you will see this theme weaving throughout that. what about you guys? do you set new year’s resolutions, or have a word? I would love to know! leave a comment here or on my instagram.
