hey friends! there have been a few new faces around here, so i’m dedicating this entire week to sharing a little bit more about myself. each day will be a deeper dive on a various aspect of my life, from motherhood to my hair. my goal is to share my life in a way that is helpful for others, so that’s exactly what this week is about. i’ve tried to group them categorically, and today’s is about blogging while having a fam + full time job.
why did you start blogging?
i started this blog a year and a half ago after thinking about it for over half a decade. that’s a long time to want to try a new hobby, and i figured it would never happen if i didn’t do it then. i’m so happy i started, because it’s something that’s really helped me embrace the more analytical side of my career. having this creative outlet makes it so i can give my day job my all and feel fulfilled with both.
is your goal to be a full time blogger?
nope. definitely not at this time. i’ll say “never say never,” but the idea of being a blogger as my career doesn’t sound appealing to me. i haven’t taken on many partnerships at all because my goal is to have this little corner of the internet be exactly what i want without any influence from anyone else. that being said, i’m not opposed to partnering; it’s just not something i’m seeking out. if i do end up partnering with someone/a brand, it’s because i truly believe in them and want to support them. career-wise, i get so much energy from working with other impressively brilliant people that i am continuing down a corporate career path for my foreseeable future. i love the team aspect of pushing towards one collective goal.
how many days a week do you post?
usually five. that doesn’t always mean i have five new posts that go up each week; some of my content is updated and recycled as it makes sense, but my goal is to post five times a week (M-F). if you follow along on instagram you will notice that i post 5-7x per week. sometimes the weekends are really hectic and i just want to focus on my family, so i forget to hop onto insta and post anything.
how long did it take you to launch your blog?
i sat down and started building the blog one february night, and shared it live on memorial day weekend. so four months? that’s including finding a name, putting the branding together, building the site, and getting some content on there ahead of time. i told myself i’d give it a year to see if i still wanted to do it, and here i am, a year and a half later!
who does your site design?
for every iteration of the site, i’ve bought a theme and tweaked some of the code myself. trust me – i have no tech experience; i literally googled everything. i promise you, everything you want to know about how to blog is on the internet. the current site design is from this amazing shop.
how do you manage keeping up with a blog, family, and job?
the blog is very much a hobby for me, and like other hobbies, there are times when you feel much more inspired to lean in. those are the times i crank out a ton of content so i have a pipeline for days when i’m really busy. i get a ton done on the weekends, and will usually take a few minutes at night to make sure things are good to go for the next day. i use tailwind to schedule pins and instagram posts, which has been a game changer when it comes to just scheduling everything in bulk. no need to remember to post to instagram when i’m in the middle of my busy day. if i know i need an outfit pic, i’ll usually have a caption ready to go in tailwind and grab a target mirror selfie (;)) on my way in to work.
at the end of the day, the blog is lower on my priority list than my family, friends, and day job, but it’s still important and something i make time for. the easiest thing is to just fit it into the cracks of my day. to be honest, this question deserves an entire post dedicated to the strategies i use to stay consistent, so look for that in the future 🙂
check back tomorrow for another faq/deep dive on a different topic about me. as always, thanks for reading!
