answering some health-related questions about me today – enjoy!
what is your current workout routine?
i walk every single morning (unless i’m traveling or sick and can’t). getting 30 minutes of movement to start my day wakes me up, gives me a head start on my steps for the day, and gives me time to clear my head. a couple of days a week i also do something a little more strength related, whether it be a mirror workout or something from tone it up.
do you follow any sort of diet plan?
no specific diet plan, but i am much more cognizant of what i put in my body these days for a couple of reasons.
- i’ve been pregnant twice since 2016, and i was no longer eating for just my own health
- i feel the effects of when i’m eating well, and when i’m not. it’s amazing how quickly i can start to just feel … blah … if i’m not getting a lot of veggies into my diet.
- my family depends on me not only to be my best self for them, but to lead the charge on meal planning, so my health directly translates to them.
i really, really work hard to get a lot of veggies, protein, and healthy fat into my day. the one thing i do almost every day is to have a salad. i know, it sounds so basic, but the kinds of salads i eat aren’t your basic “lettuce/cucumber/tomato” side salad situation. nope, i eat salads with many different kinds of veggies, a LOT of protein (i love salmon and shrimp), and a good dressing. read more about how to create the perfect salad at home here. i also try to have #fab4smoothies on the reg, so i can pack a real nutrient-dense punch.
how do you eat so many blizzards (HA!) and still maintain a healthy lifestyle?
ok this answer is SO annoying, but balance (i know, balance is such a bullshit answer, but hear me out). if i know i’m going to have a blizzard, i make sure and get in all the nutrients i need to beforehand. i also let joey know to eat appropriately. it usually looks something like this text “getting blizzards tonight, eat accordingly.” at the end of the day, i can’t be SO strict that i don’t eat sweets. you have to live life too, you know? so if that means i don’t lose all the baby weight right away, or i end up craving sugar a little more than if i hadn’t had the blizzard, that’s fine. at the end of the day, blizzards to me represent a time i spend with my husband, after the kids go to bed, eating and usually watching tv i enjoy. after all, that’s beneficial to my health, too 🙂
what supplements do you take?
i have talked about them a lot, but i take these vitamins and these probiotics. i also take a supplement for adrenal health (especially since having a baby!). more than supplements, though, i really try to get nutrients through food.
what is the most important part of your wellness routine?
oohh this is such a tough one. i’d say there are many important pieces, but the biggest one is sleep. i can just tell how much better my day is when i get enough sleep. that’s not happening right now, and it’s apparent when i get home and could fall asleep right there instead of playing with my kids. so yes, sleep. closely followed by eating lots of veggies.
do you meditate?
not regularly, but i need to. there was a season of my life where i meditated a lot, and while it wasn’t an easy season i was in, it helped me. i want to bring it back into my daily practice now that my life is in a great place (not perfect — but i recognize the good in my day-to-day!) and see how it benefits there. great reminder to start prioritizing it!
