style advice: how to wear color

neon, highlighter, bright — it’s all IN right now. i know a lot of you out there tend to stick with the neutrals, and that is a-ok in my book, but if you want to dabble in a trend (of any sort!) there are some “safe” ways to do it. here’s how to wear color whether you’re head to toe chartreuse or just want to do a touch of yellow.

  1. find a color you like. personally, i’m attracted to chartreuse this year, and love me some hot pink and bright lilac as well. red is ALWAYS great in my book. i’ve been gravitating towards all of them, so i’ve had no problem adding color into my wardrobe. find what speaks to you – there are no colors off-limit here.
  2. add pops of it: if you aren’t totally sold and just want to dabble, add pops of color. think: nail color, headbands, belts, scarves, etc. i even started wearing an olive green beanie with a bright yellow/green pop on top – SUCH a fun way to add that little something extra. think outside the box – a bag, some jewelry, etc. i also like to add in color when i’m layering. a collared shirt of color under a neutral sweater or some socks peeking above your shoes are both great ways to sneak color in.
  3. tone it down: contradictory, right? but hear me out. if you’re going to have some bright in your outfit, you have to make sure there are some significantly neutral colors so you don’t end up looking like you’re headed to an ’80s party.
  4. be confident! so often we have these ‘rules’ in our heads about “i can’t wear this color, i can’t pull that off, etc. etc.” it’s all a bunch of crap – you can pull anything off, as long as you have the confidence for it. if you think you look put together, you do. if you think you look fierce, you do.

there you have it! if you’ve been wanting to brighten up your wardrobe, but haven’t been sure how, you can go ahead and add some of the pieces below to your closet. and remember, if you think it looks good, it does. attitude and confidence are the two best things you can ever wear.
