i have such a hard time slowing down. it makes me really anxious to think about meditating, and when i sit down to do it (rarely, these days), i just can’t get myself there. i’m working on it, ok? i have found that some of my best thinking comes when i’m walking, though, which is why i’m sharing a meditation app i found that i actually enjoy. it’s more like meditation and affirmations, to be honest, which is great.
the app: i use the superhuman app by mimi bouchard.
the background: i had come across an interview with mimi a long time ago (i honestly can’t even remember which pod or when, it was that long ago) and found her intriguing, but never followed her too much. fast forward to about a year ago when i heard her interviewed on the skinny confidential and was able to test out one of her walking meditations that she shared with marianna around the same time. i decided to give it a try, since i love to walk and sometimes i’m not in a mode to actively listen and learn, so i need something a little different than my podcasts.
why i like it: the music and instrumentals are really good, and i like the affirmations she voices over in them as well. it also feels less daunting than a formal meditation, with bite-sized (3 mins – half an hourish) there are more than just walking meditations, too. there are ones for “getting ready,” “relaxing,” and “cooking,” among others. they aren’t that specific, though; you could play almost any of them for whatever you are doing. i love to do them on at least part of my walk to set me up for a good day.
the cost: it’s $29.99/month for the app, which is more expensive than any of my subscriptions to various TV/shows, but i figured for a dollar a day, if i’m positively impacting my mental health in a time when that’s one of my most important tools, it’s well worth it. i actually got rid of it for a few months last summer when i was on a subscription cost cutting mission, and re-upped it because i missed it so much. worth every penny, imho.
there you have it! kelsey recommended, but of course try it for yourself (there’s a free trial). i’m always curious to hear what tools work for you guys in your toolbox as well, so please share!
