i realize the majority of you know me, my life, and what i’m up to [hi, mom!], so if any of my life updates are redundant, apologies. for those of you who aren’t as close to my day-to-day, i had the extreme pleasure of hosting a baby shower for one of my besties this weekend! L I T E R A L L Y nothing i love more than being able to celebrate these awesome life-moments alongside my gal pals i’ve known for years.
i also wanted to take a second and just s/o my husband for being the hardest working human i know. he never sits still, and in the best way. not only is he a full-time teacher, but he coaches three sports. oh, and he’s going to grad-school. so how he finds the time to do things like plan + execute a fishing tournament as a fundraiser for his wrestling team, i’ll never know. because the guy is also a great, hands-on dad. permission to hashtag #blessed? [also, what’s the over/under on how long it takes him to read this? el oh el.]
ok, now on to the real deal tips/trick/#lifehack i have come to figure out: how to quickly put together an outfit that looks like you spent a ton of time on it.
most mornings i’m go-go-go [i am currently working on a post on my morning routine for you guys!]. i’m the kind of person that, while i can plan ahead as best i can, i never know 100% how i’m going to feel when i wake up. this impacts my outfits and outfit planning. i typically try to have 2-4 outfits in the back of my mind and easily accessible for options for the week, but depending on a number of factors [how bloated i feel, if i have shaved my legs recently, if i’ve been keeping up with my self tanner … etc.], i might not like what i have picked out. i end up trying on SO MANY OUTFITS and making a mess out of my closet, but lately i’ve been trying something new. i am applying a ‘formula’ to my method. here’s how i decide on a cute, wear-all-day, [i hope] stylish outfit:
- decide on the piece that will make me feel most confident/cover up my “trouble” spot [is it my legs, that haven’t been shaved? do i need a flowy dress? do my arms look buff? you get the idea!]
- add the “other” big piece – if it’s a skirt i chose, add the top. if i pulled out a dress, figure out if i need a jacket to go over it
- accessorize. this is where it’s like adding the puzzle pieces to pull it together. figure out the last few pieces that will really pull your outfit together – shoes, belt, jewelry. pick one piece that would be unexpected, yet cool. that might be a pop of color, or mixing prints [hint: when mixing prints, leopard/stripe/camo can be used together. just pick two, though]
sounds simple, and with practice it is! to re-iterate, here’s what ya do: figure out what you want to accentuate [or hide!], find the next biggest piece, and accessorize, adding one moment of ‘surprise and delight.’ voila! you have a formula for outfit success. [i got the idea for this post from my outfit today … totally did not like anything i had previously picked out, so i went to the ‘ol formula method. skirt, shirt, red shoes. boom, done, out the door!]
happy monday, peeps! have a great week.
