i have this really weird obsession with people’s routines. morning routines, daily routines, weekly routines – i love it all. if there’s something that people are consistently doing that yields results, i wanna know. i’ve made some updates to my morning routine since taking on a new role, getting pregnant, and just tweaking and optimizing my life, so today i’m sharing an update to what is normally my favorite time of day [and i am NOT a morning person!] two things i want you to know about my morning routine: 1. it’s nothing revolutionary and 2. it’s been refined by adding in/removing elements that i pick up on from all the other super cool, super smart people i either know or follow from afar. here goes:
4:45-5:15a: wake up. some days, it’s me springing out of bed, some days, it’s joey hitting my arm and telling me to silence my alarm or i’ll wake up logan. the past two weeks i’ve been a little slower moving since i think this kid is going through a major growth spurt and i’ve been SUPER tired.
5:15-5:35a: tongue scrape [yep, you read that right, heard about it here], brush teeth, put on first two coats of mascara, get ready for morning treadmill walk + any strength exercises i have time to fit in
5:40-6:10: drink some water, walk on treadmill, 4.4 speed, 1 incline for 30 mins. catch up on reality shows + pinterest on ipad
6:10 – 6:25: get ready. this means doing my hair every other day, and just dry shampooing it on the days i’m not heat styling it. i already put on my first two coats of mascara pre-workout, so i’m ahead of the game. those first two are so putszy, i like to get them out of the way. i also take my prenatals or regular vitamins + b6 before work these days, which includes drinking some more water.
— logan’s started sleeping a little later, which is great for my husband, who also gets to sleep in, but 4/5 days out of the week i don’t get to see logan before i go to work.
6:20-6:30a: head to work! and this is if i am not running behind. sometimes it’s more like 6:15, sometimes it’s more like 6:35. i try to hit the road before most people are out the door, because my commute is 45 miles + a ten minute walk from my parking ramp to building. during my commute i’ll listen to podcasts and the news. here are some of my favorite podcasts i’ve been into recently
well, there ya have it! nothing revolutionary, but it works for me and helps me get in the right mindset in the morning. i can tell you that if i don’t walk in the AM, i am just off-kilter for the whole day. i like to get it in first thing, because then anything additional i do workout-wise is just an added bonus.
i would LOVE to hear about your morning routines! like i said, this has been adapted + tweaked by incorporating elements from others, so if you have any good nuggets to share, comment below or go to my latest instagram and let me know what you do in the AM!
