how to look pulled together

you know how sometimes you can feel like a total rockstar, and others you are asking yourself “why did i leave the house like this?” i’m not one to necessarily conform to societal norms when it comes to what a woman should look like (i wear makeup because i WANT to, not because i should) but i’ve come up with a few strategies over the course of my *almost* thirty years on this earth to look pulled together. some i’ve developed myself, and some i’ve adopted from friends, but no matter what, here’s a few suggestions on how to look pulled together, no matter what you have going on:

style your hair

again, i’m not a proponent of perpetuating what society thinks women should do, but I can tell you that if my hair is done, I feel a million times more together. that could be in a pony, a bun, or having curled it, but if I took the time to get my hair together, I feel pulled together much more than if I hadn’t. bonus: i’ve figured out how to make a hairstyle last a few days, so you aren’t always doing it. if you have long hair, sleep with it in a bun using this alligator clip, and it helps volumize the next day as well as preserve however it’s styled. you can read more here.

wear earrings

this is one i picked up from one of my besties. i can vividly remember one of my roommates realizing she forgot to wear earrings, and commenting on how her outfit felt incomplete. to this day, if i forget to put earrings in, i then feel like i’m missing a key element of my outfit. i just feel more put together with earrings in, even if i’m just bumming around on the weekend. trust me – you’ll notice it now! here are some of my favorite everyday earrings:

get a glow

self-tanner is your best friend, especially in the dead of winter. it doesn’t matter what you’re doing; if you want a little pick-me-up, get a (healthy and safe) glow. i have written a couple of posts on my favorite self tanners before, so you can tell how passionate i am about it (lol). it can seem superficial, but to me, it is what gives me an extra boost of confidence, so that no matter what i’m wearing, i feel good in my skin.

thanks, as always, for reading!
