is loungewear dead? what’s next for fashion? i’m predicting three specific trends for SS 2021

if 2020 was the year of loungewear, i’m excited for what 2021 (and beyond) have to bring. sure, I love me some sweats as much as the next girl, and there was a multi-year period where I didn’t wear denim AT ALL (hey, college), but i’ve been feeling this pent up need to dress up, and i’m seeing it elsewhere too. i’m not alone. people are wanting to see and be seen, and with that comes fun, flashy outfits. outfits you feel GOOD in. because clothes can do that, you know. make you FEEL something.

there’s this perfect place where you feel like your health is in a good spot, you have places to go and people to connect with, and the clothes you wear on the outside really reflect and resonate with who you are on the inside. looking good, feeling great! (IYKYK). that’s what I think is next. people re-focusing on how to FEEL good, through a number of mechanisms, and what we are going to choose to put on our bodies is first and foremost. now, i have no crystal ball, but here are a few predictions I have:

for spring 2021: check it, gingham girl

I’ve always been convinced that i’m a southern belle trapped in a northern united states dweller’s body, so seeing gingham show up everywhere is making my monogram-loving heart SO happy. big checks, little checks, red checks, blue checks; i’m here for it.

for summer 2021: lose the pants

I think we are going to see dresses and skirts come into favor this summer. with more people getting vaccinated every day, and loungewear becoming something that we really only wear in that weird in-between time after work, before bed, i’m predicting that as we get out and have more places to go, dresses are in. sun dresses, midi length prairie-inspired dresses, and dresses with fun sleeves. the more ruffle, the better. for that reason I have a few fun dress styles available over at punch: the outfitter, and i’m SO excited to wear them. like, SO excited.

for beyond: take it up a notch

my prediction for summer 2021 and beyond is that we will be taking it up a notch for things that would have otherwise been a somewhat casual outfit. best friend’s baby shower? yeah, def need a matching eyelet set with coordinating block heeled sandals. and OF COURSE we need a babydoll dress, denim jacket, and cowboy boots to head to that outdoor concert that may or may not happen. brunch with the girls? paperbag pants + a strong shoulder top when before a simple jeans and tee combo would have sufficed. there’s pent up want to shop, but more than that, there’s something deep inside all of us that wants to feel GOOD again. we’ve spent the last year stressed, over-worked, under-slept, and anxious. dressing up feels GOOD to most of us, and that’s where I think a lot of people will channel their energy. for that exact reason, i’ve curated the start of this spring’s collection at punch to reflect all of the fanciful goodness “while still needing to be practical because most of us have toddlers” situation.

not sure if you can tell (lol) but i’m HYPED for the new, “gilded age of fashion” we are about to head into. partially because i’ve found the sequin joggers i’ve waited my entire life to find (and they’re on the site!) and partially because i’m looking forward to really stepping into a better version of myself. don’t get me wrong, loungewear isn’t going anywhere, but it has it’s place and on my body, outside my house is not it. here’s to a happy, thriving, and fashionable 2021 + beyond!
