we have been in our house now for … sevenish years? it’s about as basic, cookie-cutter split level as you can get. it was new when we built it, and i made sure we had as neutral of a base to start from knowing that, while it wouldn’t be our forever home, it was going to be our “we have little kids but still want to enjoy it and have a few nice things” home. silly me … we can’t have nice things BECAUSE we have kids, but i’m getting to the point where i am ready to make some updates.
my maternity leave project with cole was doing some kitchen updates (it’s weird to call them updates, because our has is was new, but I still wanted to update a few things that we didn’t make time for when we built). we didn’t have granite when we first moved in, so i made that my priority back in 2019 while i was on mat leave with him. i look at the countertops, dirty or not, on the daily and am grateful for them. they’re beautiful, can withstand heat, and somehow haven’t taken on any stains even though i definitely don’t seal them as often as i should. hopefully i didn’t jinx myself.
i’m on a kick to stop WAITING for things to be different to do the things i want, i’m starting to plan for the house projects that i want to do, furniture i want to buy, and ways i want to make our house really OURS. yeah, we will have to sell it someday, but i decided i’m done living for that day since we are going to have to repaint/re-do things anyways. i want the #PUNCHhouse to be fun NOW.
my most recent target is our living area upstairs. it’s pretty boring, and the furniture we have right now is the same furniture joey and i bought nearly a decade ago when we moved in together. we have been holding off getting a new couch since joey wanted to bring it to the (not yet built, but hopefully soon!!!!) shouse up on the hunting land he (we) owns with his brother + wife and our good friends (husband/wife). maybe i’ll share some updates from that over the summer (though, don’t get it confused: i will NOT be helping with the build, just watching. i know to stay in my lane).
because i feel like we are finally in a place (AKA, i’ve worn joey down threatening to DIY things) to move on some projects and potentially get some new furniture, i’m feeling energized and excited about our home again. i haven’t felt this way in a loooong time. i’ve started following instagram and pinteresting accounts that fit my style, and have been putting together some design boards. hooray!
i’ll share some inspo boards soon, but if anyone has some words of wisdom for me on board and batten, please share. joey’s working on lining up someone to come do that for us, and i’m scoping wallpaper like a crazy lady. hereeee weee goooooo (well, once wrestling szn is over).
in the meantime, here’s what i’m pinning for inspo.
