thoughts on being a mom

in the past two years since i’ve been a mom, i’ve never felt like i needed a specific day to celebrate that role. i wear many different hats, and mom is only one of them [albeit one of the most important ones]. i’ve always wanted to be a mom, but that wasn’t the ONLY thing i wanted to be. i will say, though, with mother’s day [and my second child’s impending birthday!!] approaching quickly, i have given a ton of thought as to how i’ve changed since becoming a mom, and thought it only appropriate i share them this week.

since becoming a mom …

… i find other people’s children significantly cuter

… i have much more empathy for that poor woman trying to wrangle her kids into the cart at target.

… i have a deeper appreciation for my husband on so many levels.

… i am more patient [although it may not always seem like it]

… my capacity to love another human now knows no bounds.

… i cry more! [i cried during avengers, you guys]

… i laugh significantly more.

… i care much less about what my peers think of me, and much more about what my two year old thinks of me

… i’m significantly more aware of how much i curse [although when my two year old did drop the f-bomb, she at least used it in context]. gotta work on that.

… i’m much more productive in the spare pockets of time i have, and ESPECIALLY at work. i don’t have the luxury to stay at work as late as i want anymore, so i need to get.it.done. when i’m here.

… i have a deeper appreciation for my own mom and the sacrifices she made to give us a good upbringing. since i know you are reading this, thanks mom!

my daughter has made me a better human, capable of laughing more, loving more, and being more patient and kind. wishing all of you fellow moms a very, very happy mother’s day this weekend 🙂

“Mom” is bar none the best, most humbling, and most privileged title ever. Being a Nana is spectacular-but makes me in turn so grateful that it all started with the day by day )and night by night) challenge of mamahood. Thanks for so elegantly outlining your journey – always a delight to read! Love you all ❤️
