what to wear in august

no matter what part of the country you are in, august is one of those weird transitional months where you aren’t sure what to wear. it’s still hot, but you’re starting to look forward to the fall months and cooler weather (PSL’s, anyone?). mix in the fact that some of us are working in an office, some of us are still work-from-home, and it’s kind of a weird month, right? if you’re like me, you’re wondering what to wear that (for the first time in months) isn’t sweats…at least everyday 🙂 here’s what to wear in august:

for work (from home)

i’m still big on the outfit mullet. business on the top, comfy on the bottom. that being said, lately i’ve been elevating what’s on the bottom to some denim instead of my leggings. i’ve talked about them quite a bit, but my favorite mom jeans are a pair of wild fable ones from target. they’re only $22! i have them in multiple colors, and they’re honestly as comfortable as some of my leggings. pairing it with a plain white tee, a button down, or a nice crewneck sweatshirt allows me to be comfortable, yet zoom-call appro. the key: add earrings and/or necklaces. it instantly classes up the outfit and makes it look like you spent extra time on thinking through your outfit.

for work (in the office)

august in the office is always a struggle for me, because you’re ready to put your summer clothes away, but it’s too hot to wear your fall clothes just yet. i usually lean on a dress + jacket combo to help me out here, because we all know that it’s usually when the AC is blasting inside. if you want to take that into the fall, lean on some of the trends that are going to be big in fall of 2020. focus on the colors rust + marigold, drop-waist (BIG fan of this one!!), and puff sleeves (glad this one is hanging around as well).

biker shorts and graphic tees will be your bff right now. the biker short trend is easy to wear because it provides coverage for even the most modest of dressers without being matronly, and let’s be honest: they’re pretty comfy. graphic tees with a front tuck or full rear-end coverage are a cute way to be on-trend without being extra, if you know what i mean. plus both pieces are incredibly versatile and can be worn separately (biker shorts under dresses and skirts, graphic tees with leggings, denim, or skirts) so you’ll get a lot of mileage out of them.
