time for a reboot! [healthy eating + working out]

blah. that’s how i’ve been feeling lately, and i’m sick of it. i’m sick of having no energy, no motivation. some of what i’m looking to change is mental, but a lot of it is physical right now. i’ve let myself get way off track and snacked on every bit of holiday candy this house has had, not to mention anything else i wanted, and i’m just feeling gross lately. here’s the little challenge I want to give myself to see if I feel better by the end of march [we are going to florida around then, and i’d love to feel great and have more energy when traveling with small children].

more about my why …

as i’m writing this, i’m sitting with my kids post-daycare snack having just put my work computer away for a few hours. I am so tired I could fall asleep just sitting here, and I just feel … gross. my kids admittedly already get me when my gas tank is on empty, and I need to have something to give them. I love my job, but it takes a ton of mental energy to think through everything that goes on at work everyday, so I need to have SOMETHING left to give my family. that’s where my shaping up my healthy habits comes in. here’s what i’m committing to for the month of march, complete with check ins on here! (I know, I may actually start blogging regularly again! i’d love some energy for that, too).

so here’s what i’m going to do!

  1. eat as close to whole30 as possible. i’ve never actually done a whole 30, but I eat a lot of food that has extra crap in it. i have thought about doing a “soft whole 30” before, so now is the time. what is a “soft whole 30,” you ask? the whole 30 as closely as I can, but i’m not going to start over when I mess up. yes, WHEN. but my goal is to stick as closely to whole 30 as possible, but s
  2. cut the crystal light. I drink a lot of water, but only when there is crystal light in it, which effectively makes it juice. I want to drink regular water.
  3. drink 100 oz. of water per day. more water, less problems.
  4. continue with strength workouts. i’ve been on a kick with my mirror since december, and want to continue it! i’m so glad I have that habit up and implemented, because it would really suck to try to take on the adjustment of my diet while trying something new with exercise. tiny steps, ppl.
  5. walking! inside, outside, but more often.
  6. start seeing a chiropractor regularly. I know this one isn’t eating/exercising related, but my upper and lower back are JACKED from carrying babies [in all senses of the phrase] along with working on the computer ALL DAY LONG. i feel like a parentheses i’m so hunched over and uncomfortable.

I know it doesn’t seem like a lot of new, but I think trying to eat more whole 30ish along with drinking plain water will hopefully be game changing. I eat a lot of protein bars, “health” foods that aren’t necessarily whole foods, and drink a lot of things that have “natural” flavors. none of that is bad! I just want to experiment and see if I can start feeling better and having even more energy.

I’ll post at least one update a week, but my hope is to do shorter check ins more often. i’ll share recipes we like, how i’m feeling, and anything else of interest.

any good whole 30 recipes? send my way!
