one tip to help get rid of clothes

if you’re like me, you’ve spent the last few years wearing the same things over and over and over. couple that with not having a full year’s worth of seasons clothing (that’s a mouthful) to wear thanks to two pregnancies within three-ish years, and i have a lot of clothes sitting around that i probably won’t ever wear again. i’ve tried the marie kondo-ing, but i’ll tell you the whole sparking joy thing truly depends on my mood; some days i hate everything, and some days i can’t part with anything because i moderately like it all. so, if you are like me, here is the one tip that helps me get rid of clothes and create space in my closet:

have a drop zone (or in my case, basket)

it seems so simple, but it has been the ONE thing that has helped me purge my clothes and donate them instead of letting them sit. here’s how it works for me:

i created a specific basket in my closet that is only for clothes i’ve worn, decided they didn’t serve me anymore (whether it be style, how it fits, overall feel), and washed. once i’m putting away laundry, i come across the piece that i no longer need and put it in this specific basket. once the basket is full, i donate it.

instead of trying to periodically get myself in the mood to purge, and then back off on things that i change my mind on, this gives me a process to truly have worn something as i would normally wear it (whether working out, on weekends, to work, etc.) and realize it no longer fits in my life vs. just trying it on for two seconds in a hours long closet-cleaning sesh. having that space to put it until i’m ready to donate is amazing, and every few weeks/months, i’m able to take my clothes to find a new home.

that’s it! SO simple, but if you have a hard time purging clothes, this tip is for you. try it out and let me know what you think!
